April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix klineman, who is playing for the first time at Tokyo's Olympic Games, will try to earn her third medal. Ross hopes to win more than her initial Olympic medal. As she is 39 she could have her final chance. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly in reach. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and playing well I believe we can be able to win gold." "I'm planning to test some luck." Ross, who was born 1982 and lived in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began competing in athletics at Newport Harbor High school. She went on to compete in a myriad of activities at Newport Harbor High School. Apart from indoor volleyball, she ran track and basketball as a pre-collegiate athlete. But she clearly was a cut above the rest when it came to the second sport. When she played in her high school volleyball career, according to her college bio, she was an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. To honor her achievements, she received the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. In addition, she was awarded the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been performing their roles from 2017. But, Ross was an important player on the beach volleyball circuit prior to the pair. The fact is, she's had numerous big wins and one partner was a renowned volleyball player. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered with Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who took home the title of world champion together with Kessy in 2009 was also significant on the an international level. This duo went into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. They were knocked out of the gold medal by the legendary duo comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her collegiate career with the USC Trojans in high school. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross made her debut on the sand and turned professional. Her time at USC was impressive. In 2000, as a freshman she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year honors and was an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to their first Final Four. She endured a great personal loss during her sophomore year, however, she was successful in achieving the All-American title. In her last two years she led the Trojans up to the summit and took home consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Margie Ross wasn't able to see her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer when she was in her sophomore year at USC. She still holds her mother dear. Margie at the beach as well as in everyday life, continues to inspire her.
